Try Lavender Oil on Your Patio This Summer and See the Results

When the weather gets nice, we hurry outside to enjoy the sun and fresh air on our patio or any outdoor space.

However, bugs can quickly interrupt this relaxation, so knowing how to keep them away is useful.

A simple and natural trick is to place orange peels around, as their limonene content effectively repels bugs. Another easy solution is using lavender oil, which can keep your patio’s insects-free.

Lavender essential oil is useful in many ways around the house.

Its wonderful scent can freshen up your room, carpet, or laundry, and this same scent repels annoying bugs like flies, mosquitoes, and fleas.

Insects are sensitive to certain smells, and the strong fragrance of lavender keeps them away.

How to use lavender to repel pests on your patio

Using lavender to repel flies is great because it’s all-natural and safe for humans, pets, and other plants. Make sure to use 100% pure lavender essential oil for this.

Mix 30 drops of lavender essential oil with a little over an ounce of water in a spray bottle to make your homemade fly repellent.

You can add another essential oil like peppermint or eucalyptus, as they also repel insects. Spray this mix around the patio and reapply if any bugs return.

This isn’t the only method you can use. You can hang bunches of dried lavender, plant lavender, or burn a candle with pure lavender oil on the patio.

You can also make a fly strip by soaking strips of cloth in lavender oil and tying them around trees or furniture on the patio to release the scent.
